BlueDragon Blog
Here you'll find tips and information about making the most of BlueDragon, which offers several compelling implementation alternatives for your CFML applications. This blog was created originally by Charlie Arehart, who was New Atlanta CTO from 2003-2006.,He has since moved on to become an independent consultant but continues to answer comments raised in existing blog entries. BlueDragon continues, and you should look to the newer BlueDragon blog, from New Atlanta president, Vince Bonfanti, for more updated information.

FAQ: Why would I use BlueDragon instead of ColdFusion MX?

posted Friday, 5 December 2003

This common question deserves a more lengthy answer, but I'll offer this set of comments from some past marketing materials:

With BlueDragon, CFML is now the only cross-platform web-scripting language that will allow you to deploy natively on .NET and J2EE.

Only with BlueDragon can you seamlessly migrate your existing CFML applications to any standard J2EE or .NET platform. Then, natively integrate and extend your applications using J2EE or .NET technologies.

Only with BlueDragon will your CFML pages function as fully-integrated native components of J2EE or .NET Web Applications, and not as a separate component or add-on extension.

Only with BlueDragon can you develop and deploy CFML as a J2EE developer, or as a .NET developer, or a CFML developer...
...or as all three at the same time!

How about providing a download for the .NET version then?

You don't need to wait for the .NET edition to deploy your CFML apps on .NET. See my faq, "Do I have to wait for BlueDragon/.NET to install BlueDragon on a .NET Server?".

The .NET edition allows deployment of CFML as a native .NET web app. As the faq describes, you can deploy any of the other versions of BlueDragon onto a .NET server right now.

Still, the .NET edition will be important to many organizations. It's in alpha testing and therefore not yet available for download.

When we make statements about it as if it's here, it's because we realize that enterprise business decisions are made over several months. Folks faced with the threat of having to move their apps off of CFML and onto ASP.NET need to know now that there is a solution that may stave off that move. We're sharing that information in advance to assist them in planning for consideration of alternatives.
