Folks, a new star has been sighted in the ever-widening blogosphere. My colleague (and company founder) Vince Bonfanti, president of New Atlanta, has started his own blog. No, it won't always be about BlueDragon (that's what this "bluedragon blog" is for), though it will of course sometimes. We're justifably proud of the product!
But with 20+ years experience in software engineering, project and product management, he plans to share his knowledge, experience, and observations on all manner of technology.
For background, Vince really is a father of web-based scripting languages. Even before CF made its place in the market, Vince had developed Lasso (a language very similar in concept and syntax to CF, though he had at that time still never heard of CF). It was acquired in 1997 by Apple subsidiary Claris for its FileMaker Pro product and Lasso still enjoys the kind of strong following CF has.
The money from that acquisition became the seed capital for the creation of ServletExec and the company New Atlanta. ServletExec was one of the first commercial JSP/servlet engines, along with JRun (then from Live Software, which was later acquired by Allaire/Macromedia), and ServletExec is still a staple product for us. Along with JTurbo and BlueDragon, we have over 12,000 customers in over 70 countries.
Of course, BlueDragon has developed over the past couple years to be the great product and opportunity that it is. For more info on this legacy of web app development (along with more about BD 6.2), see http://www.newatlanta.com/corporate/news/bluedragon_6_2_release.jsp.
Anyway, that's just a tip of the iceberg of Vince's heritage and legacy in web app development. Let's welcome him and enjoy all that he will bring and share. Let's hope that it gets picked up by FullAsAGoog itself. He has notified Geoff Bowers to ask that it be added last week. No word yet. But since it will be musings of a very experienced software engineer, it should become a place that people look forward to reading, bookmarking, RSSing, etc: http://blog.newatlanta.com/
P.S. As further proof of the true engineer he is, note that the current name of the blog isn't all that clever: "Vince Bonfanti's Weblog". :-) Feel free to share potential new titles for him, either here or there.
