Here you'll find tips and information about making the most of BlueDragon, which offers several compelling implementation alternatives for your CFML applications. This blog was created originally by Charlie Arehart, who was New Atlanta CTO from 2003-2006.,He has since moved on to become an independent consultant but continues to answer comments raised in existing blog entries. A free SQL builder tool, PrimalSQL

posted Saturday, 28 May 2005

If you don't use/like/have the SQL query-building tools in CF Studio, HomeSite+, DWMX, etc, there are various alternatives (Aquadata Studio, WinSQL), and I've just found one more: PrimalSQL. It was on the PrimalCode CD but  is also available as a separate (and free) download: http://www.primalscript.com/SetupPrimalSQL.exe ftp://ftp.primaltools.com/pub/SetupPrimalSQL.exe (the http link was listed as valid at http://www.primalscript.com/software.aspx, but is not working, while the FTP link is.)

Like the others, it permits you to connect to SQL Server, Oracle, Access or any OLEDB-connectable DB and query it or build SQL interactively. Not perfect, but perfectly useful for most needs. It works only on Windows, like WinSQL (though there is a JaySQL alternative from that vendor that runs on other OS's), while AquaDataStudio runs on multiple OS's.

If you're not familiar with the others, they're at:

WinSQL Lite (free), Developer ($99) and Pro ($249): http://www.synametrics.com/SynametricsWebApp/WinSQL.jsp

AquaDataStudio ($149): http://www.aquafold.com/

Thanks, guys. I had actually received it on a CD but was trusting the page (http://www.primalscript.com/software.aspx) that said it was available. I'm guessing that's where Jim got the FTP link (and I would have offered had he not.) Sorry for the confusion. I'll correct the link above and delete these comments. Thanks

Changed my mind. I'll keep the comments above, in case someone got an RSS feed with the bad link. They might not notice the change I've made.

Hi all, I am extremely interested in trying this Primal SQL but the links are not working and I am unable to find it anywhere.

Could someone help me find a link to it? or better still send it to me? I really need this urgently.

thanks all!

Hey guys, noticed the FTP link above isn't working. I modified it a little bit and got it to work. This is the URL I was able to download it from (08/2005).

ftp://ftp.sapien.com/pub/SetupPrimalSQL.exe

Good luck!

It appears that the primalsql tool is no longer available anywhere. Oh well. Note that at the bottom of the entry I had offered other alternatives. Still more are available at my current blog, http://carehart.org/resourcelists/tools_to_consider.cfm#query.
